Tanya Biank

The Author

Tanya Biank is an author, journalist and syndicated columnist. Her book,“Army Wives: The Unwritten Code of Military Marriage” is the basis for Lifetime’s hit series, ARMY WIVES. Tanya serves as a consultant for the show, which is cable’s No.1- rated drama series among women.  

Over the years, Tanya has received numerous awards for her writing. During Tanya’s days as a newspaper reporter she traveled around the world with troops. Her coverage of the Fort Bragg Army wife murders in 2002 led to congressional inquiries and changes in Army policy. Today, she writes a syndicated column and is a guest blogger for Lifetime TV. Her work has appeared in a number of publications, including the New York Times. Tanya enjoys traveling the country as a guest speaker and meeting members of the military community. She has appeared on a number of national television and radio programs, and in major news publications discussing military issues. Tanya has also been profiled in newspapers and magazines across the country.

A portion of the proceeds from many of Tanya’s book signings support the military community.

Tanya is an Army brat and Army wife. She comes from a family of combat veterans and active-duty service members. During her father’s thirty-year career in the Army, she grew up on military posts throughout the world and considers the Army home. She volunteers her time to the military community on a local and national level. Tanya is a Family Readiness Group Leader in the 3rd Infantry Division, which is deployed to Iraq. She is a military outreach advisory board member for Penn State’s World Campus/Continuing and Distance Education program. She serves as an adviser for the National Military Spouse and Family Monument, and is on the board of directors for SOFAR (Strategic Outreach to Families of All Reservists). She was a member of the 2009 Military Spouse of the Year selection committee for Military Spouse Magazine, and will serve as a judge for the 2010 Heroes at Home Spouse of the Year. She served on the national Spouse Council for the Military Officers Association of America for the 2007-2008 term. Tanya is also a proud member of the Society of Daughters of the United States Army.
 
Military Spouse Magazine named her on its 2007 Who’s Who of Military Spouses list “recognizing those who have made significant contributions in the military community for all military spouses.”

Tanya is a Fulbright scholar and graduate of Penn State, where she received a bachelor’s degree in journalism. She was a member of the University Scholar’s Program, graduating with honors. Tanya is also Penn State’s College of Communication’s 2009 Outstanding Alumni. The award is presented to a graduate of the college “who has demonstrated excellence in the field of communications, contributed significantly to their profession, and gained an exemplary reputation among colleagues and students within their community.”

Tanya lives at Fort Stewart, Ga. with her young son Jack. Her husband and sister are currently deployed to Iraq.
